FOOD BUZZ: The Kahala Wine & Food Classic
Grab your wine glasses and cooking aprons and head to Hawaii for some culinary fun at The Kahala Hotel & Resort’s as their Wine & Food Classic runs April 22-23, 2011. Bravo TV’s chef Cindy Pawlcyn, Pride Mountain Vineyards, Davidoff Cigars and award-winning vitner Fred Schrader, founder of Schrader Cellers will reveal their talents with several cooking, wine tasting workshops and culinary events.
Just minutes from Waikiki, The Kahala Hotel & Resort, flourishes as an exclusive oceanfront destination resort known for its impeccable service and hospitality. Now in its fourth year, the event includes five-course gourmet dinners with wine parings by Pride Mountain Vineyards on Friday and Saturday nights; a Saturday night premium cigar-smoking session at 10 p.m.; a Saturday morning cooking class with Chef Cindy Pawlcyn; a Wineology Seminar with Suzanne Pride Bryan and Stuart Bryan; and a Saturday afternoon cigar lesson with Davidoff’s main cigar man, Michael Herklots. The Kahala’s own chef Wayne Hirabayashi will also present a specialty menu paired with a wineology seminar. Chef Hirabayashi will oversee the main dinners featuring inspiration from Mustards Grill and Cindy’s Backstreet Kitchen as well.
Foodies will enjoy meeting Cindy Pawlcyn, the chef and owner of Mustards Grill, Go Fish, and Cindy’s Backstreet Kitchen in St. Helena, the heart of California’s Napa Valley wine growing region. Pawlcyn has twice been nominated for the James Beard Foundation award for “Best Chef in California” and is the recipient of the Robert Mondavi Award for Culinary Excellence and the Fine Beverage and Food Federation’s Career Award.
Joining Pawlcyn to create perfect pairings with her wine country cuisine, will be Napa vintners Pride Mountain Vineyards. This 235-acre estate with a wooden-beamed winery is located twenty-minutes from St. Helena. The Pride’s have a lovely selection of Viognier, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Suzanne Pride Bryan and Stuart Bryan of Pride Mountain Vineyards, are famous for their listings in Wine Spectator’s “Top 100” wines.
Fred Schrader, who will serve as master of ceremonies, founded Schrader Cellars in 1998, gathering the finest vineyard resources and winemaking talents to produce namesake Cabernets that consistently garner top ratings from America’s most renowned critics.
