John Lennon Peace Monument
Beatles fans are packing up and heading to lively Liverpool this October for the unveiling of a peace monument dedicated to John Lennon. New York’s Central Park holds Strawberry Fields, a memorial to Lennon in the States, and now, the birthplace of Lennon, Liverpool, will unveil a monument to pay tribute to the life and times of this world icon and his message of peace.
American art sensation, 19 year-old Lauren Voiers, was discovered by Ben Valenty, an authority on art prodigies and the Director of Global Peace Initiative. Voiers was commissioned to create the second Global Peace Initiative monument dedicated to the legendary singer. During a luncheon in Los Angeles, the young artist explained that her work has always been influenced by the “ideals of peace and harmony,” making her a superlative choice to create the monument. When asked by Julian Lennon to incorporate a white feather into the monument, the artist had the perfect spot in mind for the symbol of Lennon’s spirit, replacing a branch that was in her original design with a feather made of glass. The Global Peace Initiative’s goal is to place a peace monument in each of the world’s seven continents, spreading artistic symbols of peace across the globe.
The monument, titled “Peace & Harmony,” will be unveiled by Lennon’s son Julian in Liverpool on October 9, 2010. The two-month long “John Lennon Tribute Season” will run from October 9, 2010 (the day Lennon would have turned 70) to December 9, the day after the 30th anniversary of his death. The Tribute will showcase a series of live events, including “Lennon Remembered,” a major tribute concert at Echo Arena, and many more events, poetry competitions, and art exhibits. Find more information at The Beatles Story.
See artist Lauren Voiers exhibit at the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas from July 29 – August 1, 2010 or visit IMAGINART.
