Soho House’s New Ivory Tower in Miami: SBH

Soho Beach House is the swanky London club’s third North American property and is already making a mark on the scene in Miami. Just a short cab ride from the main action on the strip and the shops on Lincoln Road at Collins Avenue and 44th Street, the 16-story white oceanfront tower includes 50 hotel rooms, two pools, a beach club, Tiki Bar, and a Cecconi’s restaurant, open to non-members. But only *members of this exclusive club get to go upstairs and experience the dizzy heights of elitism at the Club Bar, the Snug Screening Room, the Library, the plunge pool on the eighth floor and the Cowshed Spa.

The hotel, designed by Martin Brudnizki, has a distinctly Anglo-Hollywood-retro look with a nod to Casablanca and old Havana in the 40’s. There are free-standing tubs, antique beds, rare books, mirrored drink trolleys, and large open windows with thick drapes and modern terraces, perfect for sundowners. A placard by the phone entitled “One While Changing,” known as OWC, lists cocktails that can be mixed by an in-room bartender (free in the six tower suites; it costs $14 in the other rooms). Downstairs, the Drawing Room has a Cuban coffee bar, a collection of rare cigars and a grand piano that could easily be the set of Rick’s Café Americain. Of all the gin joints in all the world, you should definitely check out this new one! You never know who you might bump into.
