Wine and Wilderness in Yosemite Valley

YosemiteGlampingHere’s a toast to an irresistible pairing of prime Northern California backcountry, Yosemite’s Ansel Adams Wilderness, and the region’s other important natural resource, world-class wine. Dubbed “Wine and Wilderness,” the new tour is a joint effort by Napa Valley’s Stewart Cellars, Slingshot Wines, and Southern Yosemite Mountain Guides, a noted expedition company that has been recognized as a “Best Outfitter on Earth” (2007) and “Best Adventure Travel Company” (2009) by National Geographic Adventure Magazine.

While SYMG will be handling the outdoors activities, Stewart Cellars and Slingshot Wines will be ensuring guests experience flavorful Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and other varietals from their choice Napa vineyards.

The setting of the epicurean adventure is one of the Sierra’s best kept secrets.  Located on the southern border of Yosemite National Park, the Ansel Adams Wilderness boasts sweeping granite ridges, spectacular vistas, sparkling high mountain lakes and abundant wildlife. Against this rugged backdrop, guides and winemakers will be on-hand to make sure appetites for adventure and premium wines are satisfied.  We’ve heard that experiences such as a picnic lunch paired with Sauvignon Blanc in a sunlit meadow, followed by hearty lamb stew and a limited production Pinot Noir under a moonlit sky are what guests can expect. And that’s just one day out of four.

A brief outline of the tour itinerary says:
“After spending the first night at the Pines Resort on Bass Lake, Slingshot Wines General Manager James Stewart will introduce you to his family’s wines, Stewart Cellars and Slingshot. The next day begins with a true Western experience at the packstation, where real cowboys load the gear on to the mule train, and your guides lead you on the five-mile hike to your stunning lakefront base camp. A train of mules carries all personal belongings, camping gear, food and most importantly, the wine.  Once we hit base camp, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to swim, hike, fish and, most of all, relax.”

Forget that Rocky Mountain High, we’ll take the Sierra Nevada Pinot buzz.
